Physiotherapy for Back Pain

Back pain is the biggest reason for work absence in the UK. We understand how it can be severely depressing and debilitating for the individual and how it can impact on your work, social and home life.

We are vehement advocates of Pilates which helps stabilize and strengthen you from the inside, retraining your posture and core muscles. By continuing to strengthen yourself, at the clinic and at home you can banish back pain for good.

It may be that your workstation is the culprit. Bad workstation ergonomics can contribute massively to back pain and must be addressed as soon as possible. We can work with your human resource department and make recommendations for a better work station. We can also come to your work and conduct an on-site ergonomic assessment.

Clinical Pilates

We incorporate clinical pilates into much of our rehabilitation programes.  Your physio may work with you in the Pilates studio using a reformer or cadillac, or it may be that once you've completed your rehabilitation you progress onto a Pilates program to continue strengthening your condition.  Our Physiotherapy team and our Pilates team work closely together to create medically safe programs.  You can read about Pilates here .

Ultrasound is a form of electrotherapy.  It can be used as a thermal or non thermal effect depending on the chronicity of the problem.  Sound waves are transmitted via a machine head through special gel into the body's tissues.  The tissue cells vibrate and are chemically stimulated.  This can increase blood flow, decrease inflammation and break down scar tissue.

Acupuncture for Physiotherapy is an effective method for pain relief. This is different to the traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture methodology. It can be used for pain management, inflammation and enhances the bodies healing process.

When the needles are inserted they stimulate the  brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals and endorphins (those feel good feelings!), this can help alleviate pain prior to further therapy and also helps the body's own healing process.

Physiotherapists that practice Acupuncture must be registered with the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists ). We use single use Seirin needles in a safe and hygienic way. All needles are disposed of within sharps containers and destroyed by incineration.
