What is the GYROTONIC® method?

GYROTONIC® exercises were created by Julio Horvath, a professional ballet dancer who spent years trying to overcome debilitiating injuries. At one point Julio was unable to sit on the floor without pain, and so began developing movement exercises seated on a stool. These flowing organic movements contain similar elements found in yoga, tai chi, swimming, gymnastics and dance. From this was born the GYROTONIC® method which then led to the development of GYROTONIC® exercises. Julio continues to experiment and develop his theories today in Germany.

Today Julio is based in a hospital in Germany and sees first hand how a holistic approach treating patients as a whole helps facilitate healing.

Finding the balance in creating a strong yet suppled and agile body is a difficult one: Gyrotonic® and GYROKINESIS® are unique in offering both. The movements cover every single range the body is capable of. You can strengthen the body in every plane of movement and in combination, with added benefits of fluidity, rhythm and flexibility.

You don’t need to be an athlete or a dancer to practice Gyrotonic® exercises. The benefits can work for everybody, no matter your body type, how flexible you are or experience you may have! Our instructors are capable and enthusiastic and will talk to you about your personal goals. Whether you want a flat stomach by summer, or simply just to stand up taller then this method is for you.

How qualified is my instructor?

The training for GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® instructors is deliberately designed to deter the increasing trend of short-term training courses that allow anyone to become qualified to teach. The equipment used is also under license and can not be purchased or used unless you are a licensed practitioner.
